WHY HAPPENS AND WHAT TO DO
WHY HAPPENS: Silver by its nature is a metal that inevitably oxidizes, especially when exposed for too long to air (especially salt), humid climate and when it enters contact with sulfur products. In fact, if you forget your jewel in silver on the bedside table for two weeks, you will most likely find it slightly yellowed or darkened, just because it has oxidized. It is different if the jewel is worn daily, it will tend to oxidize less or very often not to oxidize itself.
WHAT TO DO :If your jewel has oxidized, no problem can come back as new! The best solution is to use a LIQUID product for cleaning silver. You can find these products in the classic supermarkets, in the section dedicated to household cleaning products or you will find more choice by buying online (if you have blame for advice on which to buy contact us and we will give you our opinion).
You will have to immerse the jewel in the solution for 2/3 seconds and it will be completely white, then rinse it very well with mild soap and cold water. Dry with a soft cloth.
WHY HAPPEN AND HOT TO AVOID
Silver is a ductile metal, so you can scratch or scratch easily. It is part of nature itself material and wearing jewelry is often normal for this to happen.
TIP: our advice is to try to avoid rubbing or bumps on very hard surfaces remembering to take off the jewels when performing particular activities. For example the gym, if you use weights or balances with metal or knurled structures, the advice is to remember to remove the rings to prevent them from scratching.
WHAT TO DO: if your jewel is scratched and opaque you can try to buy a special cloth for cleaning the silver. As for the solutions, you can find these cloths on sale in supermarkets or online. The ideal is to buy cloths soaked in polishing substances and slightly abrasive. When you use them the cloth will turn black in the area used to polish, it is right that this happens. With these cloths you can polish the jewels with determination, you will be able to eliminate the most superficial scratches and restore shine to the jewel.
Preziosa recommends that you often wash the silver by hand in cold water with a mild detergent.
In order not to make the jewel lose the gloss of the material, Preziosa remind you that it is also important to polish the jewelry with a soft cloth specially made for silver products; there are also cloths soaked in dedicated substances that can eliminate the most superficial scratches in the case of particularly opaque jewelry from scratches. These cloths are also very useful to eliminate oxidation when it is little.
As for jewelry with stones, decorations or surfaces with recesses you can use a brush with bristles not too hard to rub each piece gently along the length, with linear and regular movements. Then rinse well in warm water, dry thoroughly and polish with a soft cloth.
